Who / What to Update When You Move Home
You have received the call to confirm that contracts have exchanged.
You have an official move date, and that moment of euphoria turns to ‘oh, what next?’ Next comes the practical steps that you may have not given thought to. Here is a list of some of the possible things you may need to do:
Following exchange
- Confirm your moving date with your selected removal company.
- Confirm your buildings insurance on your new property.
- Book holiday with your employer for the day of the move.
- Inform any TV and internet suppliers that you are moving and the date of your move.
- Inform your Local Authority or your new Local Authority about your move.
- Organise a redirection of mail with the Royal Mail.
- Inform the water company of your move date and organise with them to obtain final meter readings.
- Pack the items that you are taking with you.
On the day of completion
- Remove all items that you are taking with and leave the property in a clean and tidy state.
- Take final meter readings for your gas and electricity, supply these to your utility provides, along with a forwarding address.
- If your Estate Agent does not have a set of keys, take your keys to your Estate Agent.
- Collect the keys to your new house from the selling Agent.
- Take meter reading of the electricity and gas supply for your new property. Keep this to provide the same to the existing providers.
